Emily Sabetta, LPC

Therapy should be a collaborative, client-driven, and affirming process. Historically, therapy has been seen through the narrow lens of dysfunction and pathology. I embrace a more encompassing approach, including well-being, strengths, and appreciation of neurodiversity and cultural awareness. We are all influenced by the relationships and social structures around us. Incorporating a systemic and holistic framework is necessary.

My fondness for working with trauma grew while working in community mental health with children and teens, most of whom were in foster care and had experienced complex trauma. This has shaped how I view therapy and, more broadly, the human experience. Trauma fundamentally shifts our beliefs about who we are, who we can trust and depend on, and what we expect of the world. This work has also shown me people's innate resilience and capability for change.

Easygoing, inclusive, in the moment, and humorous would describe my style. Use of an eclectic approach allows for flexibility to meet individual needs. My orientation is grounded in a person-centered nature and complimented with the following: Trauma - Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), positive psychology, self-compassion, acceptance, mindfulness, and expressive interventions (play, art, bibliotherapy, etc.).

“The therapist is not a composer rewriting a musical score for the client to lessen symptoms of discordance, but rather a conductor who knows that a full, vibrant song is already waiting to emerge. They simply guide the client to uncover it.” - Susan M. Johnson.
