William Margulis, LAC
You are neurodivergent, but you are not inept, incapable, or faulty as you may have been told. You are deeply capable, communicative, empathetic, and observant. If you are reading this hoping to find a clinician who understands the experience of being different, with its unique challenges and benefits, then we might be a great match.
My work with clients aims to dispel negative myths about neurodiversity and enhance the prosocial qualities present in all of us. I also strive to acknowledge the question that so frequently appears in clients’ journeys of self-discovery: How do we cope with an unjust world when the healthiest reaction is distress? Even in our individualistic culture, psychological studies echo the healing potential of community and action.
My clients’ first steps in therapy often consist of regulating their nervous system responses to social situations, stressors, and life challenges. We then move on to developing stable, fruitful relationships with the important people and communities in their lives. Finally, we might discuss how to express their purpose through social action and how to maintain their resolve with self- and community care.
Or, maybe, we’ll just talk about whatever is going on that day. I use a person-centered therapeutic style informed by Liberation Psychology and supported by Polyvagal theory. I also intend to gradually add tools from Internal Family Systems, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and more. If you are interested in any of those, I would love for you to reach out!
I’ve found that my therapeutic process resonates most strongly with adults and emerging adults. However, my prior experience working with youth populations fosters my desire to work with younger people as well. It’s important for me to meet you wherever you are at in your healing journey and use flexible treatment options.
I will always invite those with intersecting identities of race, gender, class, sexuality, ability, age, spirituality, religion, and nationality to express their cultures and values in our treatment. We too often face hardship because of forces that target the most joyous parts of ourselves. I hope that you feel encouraged to invest in those parts during our work together.
If you’d like to work together, you can reach out to me at the number or email below to set up a 15-minute phone consultation. I look forward to hearing your story and aiding in writing your next.\
